How to Plan a Month of Content from the Beach (or Your Backyard)

The summer slow season doesn’t have to mean silence: here’s how to stay consistent and unplugged!

You’re sipping a drink by the lake, the sun’s out, and the last thing on your mind is your next Instagram post. But here’s the good news: with the right systems in place, you can unplug while keeping your content alive and your audience engaged. Whether you’re on a family vacation or working in your backyard hammock, batching and automation are your summer social media lifelines.

Step 1: Start With a Simple Monthly Plan

Grab a calendar and pick a theme or focus for the month. What are you promoting? What seasonal content can you tap into? Think summer vibes, behind-the-scenes peeks, and timely tips.

Try this breakdown:

  • 1 blog post (repurpose into 3-4 social posts)

  • 4 Reels or TikToks

  • 4 carousels

  • 2-4 static posts or photos

  • Weekly Story content (pre-recorded and scheduled)

Step 2: Batch Your Content Like a Pro

Dedicate 1 - 2 days to create a month’s worth of content.

  • Film your Reels/TikToks in one session (use outfit changes for variety)

  • Write captions in bulk, use templates to speed things up!

  • Design carousels or graphics in Canva (and duplicate/adapt past ones)

Tip: Schedule a 2-hour “Content Creation Day” each month to treat it like a mini photo/video shoot.

Step 3: Automate Your Posts

Use a scheduling tool like Later, Rella, or HeyOrca to pre-schedule all your content. You can also schedule Stories (yes, really!) and set reminders for when to post if your platform doesn’t allow auto-publishing.

Step 4: Create “Evergreen” Fallback Content

Have 2 - 3 backup posts ready in case something doesn’t feel right last minute. Ideas:

  • A quote that aligns with your brand

  • A photo of your workspace or summer setup

  • A Q&A or tip that can fit anytime

Step 5: Give Yourself Permission to Log Off

The whole point of planning ahead is to enjoy your time off. Set boundaries and autoresponders. Your audience will understand, and may even admire your prep game!

Social media shouldn’t run your summer. With a little planning, batching, and automation, you can keep showing up, even when you’re checked out! Whether you’re lakeside, poolside, or just trying to spend more time outside, your content doesn’t have to take a break - even if you do.
